A STYLIST’S RELAXED WEDDING OVER LOOKING THE OCEAN IN IBIZA

Photography by Taylor & Porter

Private Villa, Ibiza

Choosing to hold their wedding in a private residence, an old traditional Spanish style villa near Portinatx in Ibiza, Rae Boxer, a stylist and the fashion director of Mastermind Magazine, and Etienne Derœux, a fashion designer and creative consultant, crafted a wedding which was full of laid back chic. Having got engaged on the island the year before, the location held memories for them already and they made even more happy memories during their incredible wedding.

The invitations

Referencing fashion show invitations that they collect as a couple, the embossed drawing is from French artist Jan Melka. The wedding bands were sourced rom Le Gramme in Paris.

The morning of the wedding, Rae got ready with her bridesmaids in a vintage Miu Miu slip dress that Etienne bought for her. On top of that, she wore a lace kimono style robe from the 1920s that she sourced from a vintage boutique in London. As a nod to tradition she wore a blue sapphire stud gifted to her by her sister.

The getting ready look

Bride Rae worked with Delphine Manivet on a unique bespoke design. Rae spent a lot of time mood boarding, pulling vintage Vionnet dresses from the 1930s as well as some old Narciso Rodriguez and Ralph Lauren gowns from the ’90s. “I did not look at what other girls had been wearing as I really wanted to find something I felt comfortable in, but that also felt like myself,” Rae explains.

The dress

Just prior to leaving for their clifftop ceremony, we captured some portraits of Rae in her ceremony look.

Their bilingual, non-religious ceremony was carried out on the clifftops with ocean views all around. Their close friends who had brought them together in the first place, conducted a meaningful and personal ceremony.

After the ceremony their friend Stefan Jovičić drove them back up to the villa in a white Mini Moke where everyone greeted them cheering.

The reception

During cocktail hour, Rae changed into a short white Louis Vuitton dress and hair stylist Andrea, who works closely with Paul Hanlon, took her hair down and pulled it into a half-up-half-down look. The terraces and patio were transformed into a bar garnished with greenery, while the dinner was held in the garden around the villa’s swimming pool, overlooking the ocean.

Guests were seated at long tables where family and friends were mixed together. Boris Buono from Ibiza Food Studio was the chef for the evening, assisted by caterer Fiona Frith, and a signature spritz was served along with mezcal-infused oysters, gazpacho verde, various tapas, and Iberic lamb or Mediterranean fish for the main dish. For dessert, vegan cakes made by the couple’s friends Sullivan Hoziaux and Marie Vial from Up Grain in Brussels were a hit.

The evening

As guests seated for dinner we spent a few minutes capturing some portraits and watching the sunset with Rae & Etienne.

Speeches over dinner were a riot of laugher, then the Parisian DJ Piu Piu kicked everything up a notch. Dancing started outside before everyone moved into the house, which had been transformed into a night club, Rae changed into a beaded and lace jumpsuit by Louis Vuitton. At that point, she threw her hair up into a chignon—ready to dance the night away.
